O'Reilly presents a background of O'Reilly Media and the organization's commitment to changing the world by spreading the knowledge of the innovators through books, organizing conferences and papers that enlighten and educate people on how things work.

The presentation addresses cloud computing, data driven applications, the increasing importance and requirements of mobile access applications, and offers a vision of the future beyond the Web.

He focuses on the theme that the Web is a data driven operating system that uses stored and real time data combined with sophisticated algorithmic processing. Today, mobile Web apps help users find information on people, places, things, prices, documents, and images almost instantaneously.

O'Reilly discusses the integration of real time data in cloud computing to provide traffic, product and medical information, and cites the example of the coordinated information services provided by Ushahidi during the Haiti earthquake recovery. He mentions existing applications such as barcode readers, Google goggles, movement detectors, appliance monitors, and medical information exchange applications as examples of the integration of sensor data and algorithmic processing.

O'Reilly concludes by reminding operations personnel of the importance of their work in the symbiosis of humans and global computing possibilities. He encourages sharing solutions and problems as well as the need to be guided by best practices in developing and testing service applications. He strongly suggests that web operations personnel become engaged with decision makers, especially those in the government, to support good decisions and limit bad ones that will affect technological solutions for everyone.
